  • HEO 8 - Base Salary - $109,663 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Program Manager, Sydney Environment Institute provides overall program management for the Sydney Environment Institute and oversees implementation of large-scale strategic programs of work involving integrated or matrix projects for the Institute. Establishes and maintains the program, governing the prioritisation, organisation, and implementation of multiple projects, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment of teams and resources to meet program objectives.

Manages program financials ensuring expenditure across the full suite of projects is in line with budgets, and in consultation with the Institute General Manager, manages reallocation of program funding to meet changes in project scope or requirements.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work with a range of staff across multiple project teams and stakeholders in the University environment to meet work area objectives
  • in collaboration with the leadership team, identify new project opportunities and scope their viability, including alignment with Sydney Environment Institute objectives; provide advice as to risks and threats to program implementation and recommend mitigation, minimisation and/or elimination strategies
  • assist with the development of viable new opportunities
  • manage the design and implementation of the overarching program work plan, ensuring the efficient organisation and alignment of projects, identifying, and managing inter-dependencies and enablers, and the sequence and phasing of projects required to meet program objectives within set budget parameters
  • provide program management leadership and expert advice throughout the development and establishment of projects within the Institute's program
  • oversee internal and public programming for research projects, including internal workshops, roundtables, and symposia as well as public-facing events. Consult with Research Leads and Institute leadership to identify topics/foci for seminars, lecture series, and special events each term/year
  • provide sound advice and guidance to project teams throughout program implementation
  • manage the financial planning including the development and allocation of program and project budgets across projects and monitor on-going expenditure against plan.

About you

  • postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive relevant work experience, preferably in program management and managing complex projects
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with a variety of matters
  • accuracy, attention to detail and highly organised. Planning, analysis, and communication skills together with the ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands
  • effective skills in managing a diverse group of key stakeholders on large or complex projects and the ability to develop/cultivate productive relationships with industry providers and key users
  • strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills together with effective leadership and people management skills
  • excellent program management and planning skills, coupled with a general understanding of the project life cycle, project documentation, project standards and methodologies
  • experience project managing multiple work streams, or leading large complex projects and ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands
  • financial management experience and literacy, experience managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure for large scale projects.
