Tesla Raises Base Prices of Model S and Model X but Makes Premium Features Standard - Interesting Engineering

The 'Premium Upgrades Package' is now standard on the 75D and 100D versions rather than just the performance models. It was originally priced at $5,000 for the upgraded non-performance versions. The upgrade includes a HEPA air filter with the Bioweapon Defense Mode, an improved audio system, and features to fight against the cold like a heated steering wheel and heated seats for all passengers.

The boost in quality for these two models also means a boost in price. However, the base prices for both the Model S and the Model X only rose by $2,000 rather than the $5,000 it would originally cost. Thus, a Model S 75D version will start at $77,000 and the Model X 75D version starts at $83,000.
Financial analysts have already noted the change boosted the company's stocks slightly, giving more confidence to investors rather than the shaky (and often turbulent) production and release of Tesla's Model 3 units.
