Best Online Aeronautical Degrees Of 2023
Know Your Time CommitmentHow long do you plan to spend earning your online aviation degree? If you want to start using your degree as soon as you can, look for an accelerated program. If you plan to work while in school, however, you might consider programs with part-time or evening and weekend enrollment options. Plus, an asynchronous online program can make it easier to work your studies around other responsibilities.
Look at AccreditationMake sure any school you attend is institutionally accredited. Institutional accreditation signifies a trustworthy, high-quality institution, also making it easier to qualify for federal student aid and transfer credits to another school.
Some aviation schools also have separate programmatic accreditation. Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) provides accreditation to aviation colleges that meet quality criteria. AABI accreditation is not generally an industry requirement, but it validates that a degree program offers quality education, and an AABI-accredited degree may impress some employers.
Consider Your Future GoalsWhen choosing where to earn your bachelor's degree in aviation, think about what you plan to do after graduation. If you want a specialized career path, look for programs offering concentrations that can help get you there. If you plan to pursue a graduate degree, consider the research level of any prospective program to evaluate how well it can prepare you for grad school.
If your main goal is to enter the workforce as quickly as possible after graduating, consider choosing a program that prioritizes hands-on learning and offers professional experience through internships, a practicum or a co-op work program.
Best Online Homeland Security Degrees Of 2023
Know Your Time CommitmentBefore choosing where to earn your online homeland security degree, ask yourself how many hours you want to spend on your studies each week. If you plan to work while in school, consider prioritizing asynchronous, part-time, or evening and weekend programs. These programs may offer more flexibility for you to attend class and complete coursework around your work schedule.
If you want to graduate and enter the workforce faster, you may benefit more from a full-time or accelerated program. However, these degree programs may not leave much time for a job or other time-consuming responsibilities.
Look at AccreditationInstitutional accreditation signals that a school has met quality standards set by an independent third party approved by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education. Choose an institutionally accredited university for your online homeland security degree to ensure your eligibility for graduate school and federal student aid. Institutional accreditation also makes it easier to transfer credits to other accredited schools.
Look for accredited universities using CHEA's directories of accredited programs and institutions.
There is no designated programmatic accreditor for homeland security degree programs, but if you aim to focus your homeland security studies on cybersecurity, you can look for programs holding the National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity designation from the National Security Agency.
Consider Your Future GoalsYour future goals can also help determine where to earn your homeland security degree online.
Before enrolling in a program, figure out which type of work or education you want to pursue after graduation. This can help you narrow down your choices to programs offering relevant curricula, specializations and hands-on learning experiences. For example, if you want to focus your career on climate change's homeland security impacts, prioritize programs with environmental classes or specializations.
